Tualatin Riverkeepers, Clean Water Services, and the City of Beaverton invite local artists to transform a sidewalk storm drain into a vibrant, educational mural that tells the story of stormwater and its connection to the Tualatin River.
Artists will receive:
A $2000 commission plus up to $500 for materials
Opportunities to connect with local organizations
Heightened visibility of your work throughout the Beaverton community and beyond
Artist Responsibilities:
Submit designs by 11:59 pm on Friday, July 17th, 2026
Collaborate with Tualatin Riverkeepers and the City of Beaverton for installation in August 2026
Prepare mural site and use appropriate mural materials
Artist to coordinate with City of Beaverton on traffic control measures and requirements of doing work in the right-of-way
Artwork will be installed on a 4 ft x 10 ft sidewalk surface using latex paint and non-slip sealant
Selection Criteria:
Tualatin Riverkeepers and a public art committee organized by the City of Beaverton will evaluate design proposals based on the following criteria:
Includes the phrase “Drains to Tualatin River” (this phrase can be in a language other than English)
Artwork is appropriate for public art display
Clearly and creatively demonstrates an environmental theme
Artistic composition and overall design thoughtfully consider the story of Creekside Connections in Beaverton
Submission Guidelines:
Up to 2 design proposals per artist submitted in PDF format
For each design, include whether it is rectangular or square and a color palette
A brief proposal describing the elements of the design and how it reflects either the themes proposed above or reveals the unseen connections between our streets, waterways, and shared responsibility for protecting them.
Include a short artist's statement or bio
A statement confirming your availability to complete the mural in August 2026
