VOLUNTEER COMMITTEES

10,000 volunteer hours were donated to Tualatin Riverkeepers in 2007. That's $180,000 in donated time and expertise. If you have special skills or a desire to learn, please join us.

Board of Directors
Sets policy for the 501/c/3 non-profit corporation, reviews and adopts the annual budget. Authority includes hiring the executive director, adopting public policy positions, approving program start-ups or revisions, and ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws. Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings, assist with fundraising, and actively participate in a standing committee. Fund Development Committee Develops and implements annual fund raising plan: grants, member recruitment, major donor, corporate and planned giving. Works closely with major event committees to maximize revenues. Contact Monica Smiley 503 620 7507 or monica@tualatinriverkeepers.org

Finance Committee
Ensures compliance with standard accounting practices and procedures. Develops annual budget with executive director, reviews monthly financial statements and items impacting the annual budget, oversees annual audit, and develops fiscal policies. Citizen Action Committee
Deliberates and prioritizes issues, helps formulate action strategies, and provides technical assistance to citizens, staff, and the board. Specific activities may include organizing town meetings, stakeholder gatherings, issue forums and training events. Advises the board on issues and actions that support the TRK mission and Statement of Principles. The Litigation Subcommittee coordinates issues that require a legal response. Volunteer for the Annual  Tualatin River Clean Up

Saturday September 25, 2010.

We are teaming up with the City of Tigard, City of Tualatin, Wetlands Conservancy, and SOLV to remove trash from the river & wetlands.

VOLUNTEER AS A GROUP

Habitat Restoration

Groups of 10 or less
Participate in a Community Restoration Event. Together with other community members, your group can plant trees and shrubs and remove invasive species to improve water quality and habitat for wildlife. 

Groups of more than 10
Coordinate a group project at a community natural area.  A trained volunteer land steward will lead your group in restoration.  Your group will get to tour a fantastic natural area and learn about local flora and fauna.

River Clean Up

Groups of 10 or less
Participate in Tualatin Riverkeepers annual River Clean Up in September.  Volunteers take to the water in TRK Canoes and remove everything from soda cans to shopping carts.

Groups of more than 10
Coordinate a river clean up for your group.  A trained volunteer paddle trip leader will support your group by bringing canoe fleet, all supplies and arranging for garbage removal.

Events
Volunteer groups are essential to making Tualatin Riverkeeper events successful.

Green Heron Gala – April 24, 2010
Silent Auction and Dinner to benefit Tualatin Riverkeepers.  Awards for individual, youth, business, and public official for making a difference in the Tualatin River watershed.  Volunteers help with event set up, silent action, registration and check out.

Discovery Day – Saturday June 19, 2010
The Tualatin River’s largest annual paddle trip.  It’s a 21 year tradition!  Volunteers help make the event accessible by helping put boats in and take them out of the river! Lighter duty positions also available.
