Summer Nature Day Camp

Each session has a different theme, each one focusing on fostering a sense of awareness and love for the natural world.


Sessions are held at three locations in
the Tualatin River watershed:
Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, Sherwood,Jackson Bottom Wetland Preserve,Hillsboro and Cook Park,Tigard. All sessions are held from 9-3:30, Except for the first session for 4-6 yr. olds. Before and after care available from 8 am- 5 pm for session 2-6 (see daily camp questions on right).

Session 1
Bugs, Birds, and Butterflies

June 21-25

9 am -12pm

Ages 4-6
$95 for members,$135 for non-members

Location:
Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge

Join us for a week long adventure discovering
the wonders of the natural world. We will observe our buzzing, hopping, weaving friends,
and learn what they need to live. We will learn and discover through outdoor exploration, sensory activites, games and crafts.


Session 2
Where are the Wild Things?
June 28-July 2

9 am -3:30 pm

Ages 8-10

$135 for members, $170 for non-members

Location:

Cook Park, Tigard

They are all around us! The Peregrine Falcon, the fastest animal on earth lives right here. Red Fox, Mink, River Otter are our neighbors. Heighten your observation skills to identify and track animals that live along our river, in our parks and backyards.


Session 3
Snakes,Tracks, Tails, and Trails

July 12-16

9 am-3:30 pm

Ages 8-10
$135 for members, $170 for non-members

Location:

Jackson Bottom Wetland Preserve
Even snakes leave tracks! Those tracks tell a story about their life-where they live, what they eat. Follow the trail and let nature tell you a story. Help share the stories of the animals through creative writing and art.


Session 4

WILD LIFE!

July 19-23

9 am-3:30

Ages 11-13
$135 for members, $170 for non-members
Location:

Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge
What does it take to survive in the wild? Find food-build shelter! Experience relationships between predators and prey. Be the predator and the prey. Learn how animals adapt to their surroundings and we adapt to ours.


Session 5

Waterworld

August 2-6

Ages 8-10

9am-3:30 pm

$135 for members,$170 for non-members

Location:

Cook Park, Tigard

The drain is not the end of the water cycle-it's the begining! Where does the water go when it leaves our house? What's in the water we drink and fish swim in? Let's explore the water cycle and sustainability through a new lens.


Session 6

The way things Are

August 9-13

Ages 11-13
$135 for members, $170 for non-members

Location:
Cook Park, Tigard

If snakes live in holes, then how do they dig them? They don't have hands... Do fish sleep? Are their eyes open or closed? You ask the questions and find the answers through nature observation.

Download Registration Form and the session specific Informed Consent Agreement(found below) and mail, hand deliver or fax with full payment.

 

Registration Questions
When is the registration deadline?
All camp sessions are open until full, ( 16 participants). Please register at least two weeks prior to session start date.
Can I register Online?
Registration materials can be downloaded from our website, complete the registration and medical forms and send with payment to the Tualatin Riverkeepers office.

How many forms total should I mail in?

There are two forms that need to be filled out for each camper to participate registration form,and the session specific informed consent agreement (found above).

Payment Questions
Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes, fill out credit card information on registration form.

Are there discounts avialable?
Yes, there are two discounts available, only one can apply. Three week discount,if your child attends 3 or more sessions, a $25 discount will apply to the total cost. Family Discount,if there are multiple family members participating in Nature Day Camp there is a $25 discount to the total cost.

Daily Camp Questions
Can I drop my child off earlier or pick him/her later than 9-3:30?
Yes, before and after care is available starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. The cost is $8/day,$40/week and $4/day $20/week only morning or afternoon. Just fill out information on registration form.

About our Staff
Tualatin Riverkeepers Education Coordinator will be the main camp counselor, Lori Kruse. She has extensive environmental education and summer camp experience. All staff and volunteers working at Summer Day Camp are cleared through an FBI background check. Tualatin Riverkeepers is now in the process of making the final selections for the nature day camp staff. The website will be updated with information and backgrounds of those working at the summer camp.
